Judiciary Gives Relief Aid to Victims of Bududa Landslides

BUDUDA: The Judiciary donated relief items worth Shs10 Million to the people who were affected by flash floods and landslides in Bududa District recently.
The items that included maize flour (posho), beans, rice, cups, plates, soap, salt and assorted clothes including beddings donated by Judicial Officers and administrative staff.
The relief items were handed over by a team of Judicial Officers led by Judge of the High Court, Hon. Lady Justice Margaret Mutonyi, to the Bududa District Chairperson Mr. Wilson Watira at the Buwali Church where the victims are taking refuge.
Hon. Justice Mutonyi explained to the more than 60 families affected by the landslides that the items though few came from very big hearts.
Hon.Lady Justice Mutonyi equally commiserated with families that have lost loved ones and the survivors.
She urged them to have hope and exhibit good behavior while in the camps.
She equally urged them to utilize the government offer for relocation to preserve life.
On his part, Mr. Watira thanked the Judiciary for reaching out to the victims especially at a time when support to the victims has been minimal.
The Judicial Officers also took time to listen to gory survivor tales of how flash floods claimed lives and swept off homes.
The event was witnessed by a team from Red Cross that applauded the Judiciary for being pro-people adding that such acts bridge the gap between the courts and the people they serve.
Also present were health officials as well as representatives from different Justice Law and Order Sector institutions.
